Christmas Blues Albums to Try This Year

Happy Xmas Eric Clapton Album

As Christmas is starting to get into full swing, I’m actually finding myself getting swept up in the moment. I’m turning on the Christmas lights before it’s dark and putting on Christmas playlists. Maybe this mess of a year has changed me…

As a blues lover, I tend to skip the traditional carols for something a little punchier. Here, in no particular order, are some blues Christmas albums to give a listen to this year.

Eric Clapton – Happy Xmas

Wait! Hear me out. Whilst this album couldn’t be further away from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, Happy Xmas is an album I really enjoy. Its mellow tone is great as background music while you’re wrapping presents or perhaps franticly searching for companies that can express ship overnight. Clapton avoids cheery and festive for quiet and reflective. Overall, a great album to relax to.

B.B. King – A Christmas Celebration of Hope

The sheer warmth of his personality coming through this album make it a winner for me. B.B. King takes to a collection of Christmas standards with his years of experience and creates an easy listening, playful album synonymous with the great man.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra – Boogie Woogie Christmas

I’m dreaming of a big band kind of Christmas. A high energy Christmas album that delivers. It’s always hard to recommend a Christmas album but this one has a solid guarantee for quality.
